Q: Is this book really different from the ones I have on my shelf?

A: YES!

Here's the difference:

Other chord books that you have seen arrange the chord diagrams by root note. That is, they put all the chords built on the root of "C" together, all the chords built on the root of "D" together, and so on. That makes for a fine dictionary of chord diagrams, but a terrible resource for song writing. This is simply because music is not written that way at all. A song written in the key of "D" is not composed entirely of chords built on the root of "D"... far from it.
